How I Approached My Reign of the North Forest series

Let’s talk about the general approach I took for each of my books in my Reign of the North Forest series.

Book 1—politics. Imperious Realm is largely about setting the stage for the series, of course. I was intrigued about the politics, which I've talked about before:

Why I Chose to Write a Political Science Fiction Series

Much of the world building in the series is centres on this. In Imperious Realm, there were several passages I took great care crafting to be considerate of the nuances I wanted to convey.

Book 2—critters. Twisted Monarch allowed me to explore the world itself. I didn’t want Twisted Monarch to fall into the second-book slump. There was so much happening in Book 1 that I didn’t have much time to explore the planet and its unique creatures as much as I wanted. I had a lot of fun focusing on biodiversity and its challenges to my characters.

Book 3—contrast. Two books in, it was time to place Eiyesa on the larger stage of the universe. For Defiant Dominion, I wanted a drastically different perspective of this world. Book 3 required the closing of several plotlines, while also allowing me to explore cultural, scientific, and technological differences between societies.

Anyway, this is a bit of insight into my series. As my debut, I feel like the expansive Reign of the North Forest world will always be my favourite child.
